In response to Christian here.
I went to the Media Matters site and read the analysis. I think that there were some good points raised - and I think that Meet the Press seemed to respond to those - because there was a panel of religious people on Meet the Press Sunday - Falwell and Richard Land on the right, and Sharpton, and a guy from Sojourner's magazine from the left.
I had problems with groups like the Human Rights campaign saying that the issue of gay marriage was a distraction, when I thought they should have been
directly talking about the morality of allowing gay marriage. (And I think it's essential that the argument be based on morality).
Bush was able to exploit the issue of moral values - mostly because Kerry wasn't able to refute it very well. If Kerry had talked about moral values in a
less contrived way (his "life begins at conception" statement was wacky - and also not believable, and his declarations of faith came accross as phony.)
