New England Gay Vets Praise Log Cabin and SLDN Suits

December 09, 2004

Here....

It seems that the Gay Vets who actually have served this country in the Military very much appreciate the court challenges by Log Cabin and SLDN.

Bob Kabel becomes first Openly Gay Republican State Chair

December 08, 2004

Via BoifromTroy..... BFT comments:

I'll save Mike Rogers the effort. The new State Chairman of the District of Columbia Republican Party is gay. And unlike other State Chairmen of other parties, he's out.

Kabel's complete statement is posted here:

"My election is a mandate for the D.C. Republican Party to be relevant again in this city, and to take the side of the thousands of D.C. residents who have had enough of the results of one-party rule and one-party government," Kabel said.

Kabel said that in addition to building the party's structure, he wants to reach out to all communities in the District regardless of party labels, and to emphasize cooperation and partnership between the DC GOP and a broad range of community organizations and activists on issues of common ground that will improve the lives and well-being of the over half-million residents of the District of Columbia.

"We are the party of clean government, real education reform, fiscal responsibility, individual freedom and community development in all 8 Wards of D.C.," Kabel said. "We will also push for real results on D.C. voting rights, not just hot air year after year. We will go out to the neighborhoods and take the side of the residents, the businesses, the parents and the taxpayers of the District of Columbia against the forces of stagnancy and corruption that stand in their way."

"And as the only urban state GOP in the nation, we will stand on our DC party platform and proudly build the most inclusive Republican Party in America," Kabel said.

The DC Republican party has been working with Virginia's Rep Tom Davis to pass congressional legislation to allow DC "home rule".

GayPatriot weighs in with characteristic venom:

Mr. Kabel has long ties with the establishment of the Log Cabin Republicans national organization and Board. I would hope that his moving into the RNC infrastructure may help Log Cabin realize they truly have a third name in their title. But, alas, my sources tell me that Mr. Kabel is a lot of the root of the "gay community must love us" LCR strategy.

Time will tell. Good luck, Mr. Kabel.

More Gay Patriot Venom on Log Cabin

December 08, 2004

Brian, guest blogging for Christian mentions it here.

Good for Log Cabin Republicans.

I just went over to Log Cabin's website and donated after reading the Gay Patriot post on this. I suggest that others do the same - and in the comments, ask, Log Cabin Republicans to thank GayPatriotWest for inspiring you to donate to Log Cabin Republicans.

SLDN is doing their own case. Log Cabin Republicans has a press release praising SLDN for their action:

Statement by Log Cabin President Patrick Guerriero

December 6, 2004
(Washington, DC)-Log Cabin Republicans applaud Service Members Legal Defense Network for filing a lawsuit seeking to overturn the ban on gays and lesbians being able to serve openly in our military. Log Cabin, which is represented by the global law firm of White & Case, filed suit to overturn this policy in October in federal court in Los Angeles. We welcome any challenge to this blatantly discriminatory policy that serves only to weaken our national security and undermine our military preparedness.

Public opinion, the experience of our allies, and the national security interests of our nation all lead to the inescapable conclusion that gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly and honestly in our military.

Log Cabin Republicans is the nation's largest organization of Republicans who support fairness, freedom, and equality for gay and lesbian Americans. Log Cabin has state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time Washington office, and a federal political action committee.

It seems that the GayPatriots have a vendetta against Log Cabin.

I have no idea why efforts shouldn't be made to repeal this policy legislatively. It won't happen the first session you try - but you don't get any bill passed if you don't introduce it. I saw Representative Betty McCollum at a Minnesota Women's Political Caucus event. I asked her to introduce or co-sponsor a bill to overturn DADT. She said that such a bill is introduced, but it won't go anywhere because both houses are held by Republicans.

I will be following up on this with my Representative: Rep. Martin Sabo. The only way to start a bill on the road to passage is to introduce it.

Log Cabin did not endorse Coburn

November 08, 2004

I talked with a Log Cabin Republicans Board member yesterday, and Log Cabin did not endorse Senator Coburn. The press report I linked to yesterday was in error.

Did Log Cabin Republicans Endorse Coburn?

November 06, 2004

According to the Claremore Progress they did.

Coburn accepts gay nod

Coburn accepted the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative group for gay rights, when he was in Claremore Monday with others including Oklahoma Republican Sens. Jim Inhofe and Don Nickles.

“I welcome their endorsement,” Coburn said. “They have a vote too.”

The Log Cabin Republicans Friday announced their support of Coburn, “because of his progressive record on gay rights” in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2000, said Chris Barron, the group’s political director.

However, Coburn is not listed as one of Log Cabin Republicans Endorsed Candidates on the Log Cabin Republicans website.

More Gay Patriot Bile

October 23, 2004

From the Washington Blade, here.

The Washington Blade should have known better than agree to publish accusations from anonymous sources.

But then, both Instapundit and Votka Pundit did the same thing. Instapundit doesn't agree with Bush on the Leviticus Crowd nonsense, but it's so much easier to blame Log Cabin Republicans for the Bush decision to gay bait for political gain, than to blame the Bush campaign.

These attacks on Log Cabin Republicans from an anonymous "gay republican", suggest that Rove is worried about the impact of the LCR nonendorsement of
Bush is having.

It's real interesting how the vast majority of Gay Patriot's posts have been trashing Log Cabin Republicans - all from a safely anonymous position. Who is funding Gay Patriot?

"Gay Patriot West" describes an email he got from the femail President of Log Cabin Republicans of Virginia. Now from Press Reports about Log Cabin, I assume that is Rebecca Maestri. Both of the "patriots" are spreading their rumors by mass emails to Log Cabin people.

African American Gay Republicans Make News

September 23, 2004

Dennis Sanders, who runs the Moderate Republican website, and is Vice President of Public Relations for Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota has made the news again in the Star Tribune.

The Rev. Dennis Sanders laughed at the suggestion that he's your typical gay, black, Republican minister.

"No, I'm more of a moderate, old-style Rockefeller Republican, which makes me even more of an oddity," said Sanders, 34, a vice president of Minnesota's Log Cabin Republicans and a minister at Lake Harriet Christian Church in Minneapolis.

The Rev. Terry Steeden, senior minister at Lake Harriet Church calls Sanders "an anomaly," describing the Flint, Mich., native as a man who "encompasses some very meaningful old traditions, but, on the other hand, is a rebel ... with a cause."

"Dennis defies stereotypes," added Joe Grubbs, the retired minister at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ who helped with Sanders' ordination. "You wouldn't want to label him."

But this is a story about labels. Black. Gay. Republican. Minister. Let's throw in tall and good-looking while we're at it, Grubbs suggested.

"Labels at least help identify who a person is," Sanders said. "It's only a problem when the labels basically become the people.

"People who have labeled me have asked, 'Why would you stay in a party that doesn't want you?' Well, I'm a Republican, but I hope people don't think all Republicans sit and listen to Pat Robertson."

Lesbian Republicans

September 19, 2004

Carol Newman, and alternate delegate to the convention from California has an oped in the Advocate.

She asks some provacative questions:

support many of Bush’s policies, including a strong defense, a decisive response to terrorism, and lower taxes, and I am no fan of John Kerry. I am incensed, however, at Bush’s use of gays and lesbians as pawns in this election. I cannot condone that strategy no matter what its purported justification may be. And Kerry is marginally better on gay issues. I do not yet know who I will vote for in November. But I do know that I will not drop out of the Republican Party.

If I drop out of the party, the religious right wins. Much as we might like to believe that a third party is the answer, no third party has been able to consistently garner a substantial portion of the vote in the United States. Our government is, for better or worse, a two-party system. That is the very reason the religious right has sought to take over the Republican Party, and that is why the struggle for the heart of the party is so important. We cannot cede control to the Jerry Falwells and the Rick Santorums.

Carol hits the nail on the head here. That's why the Leviticus Crowd is doing whatever they can to drive gays out of the party.

Steve May gets Attacked for his Kerry Endorsement

September 17, 2004

Some commenters are not happy with Republican Steve May endorsing John Kerry.

Steve May is a whiney wolf in sheep's clothing. If his sexual preferences are more important than a strong economy, tax cuts, and the war on terror, why doesn't he whip out his leather harness and run for Grand Marshall of the local PRIDE Parade?

This one is purely ad hominem.... Meaning if you can't argue the issue, do a personal attack. Jeff also comments (Jeff is a regular commenter on Blogactive and gaypatriot also.)

Steve May on the Presidential Race

September 16, 2004

Steve May is an openly gay former state legislator from Arizona. He is publically supporting John Kerry. Here is his statement.

I supported and campaigned for George W Bush in 2000 and took a lot of grief from my gay friends. I was even publicly scolded by Andrew Tobias at a fundraiser for the Victory Fund on Fire Island. I supported Bush because I believed that he would unite our party, reduce the size of government, balance the budget and secure freedom for every American.

Anti-gay CWFA Blast Log Cabin Republicans Ad

They are howling mad because the ad associates Rick Santorum and Jerry Falwell with Fred Phelps. They mention that CNN has refused to carry the ad, they neglect to mention that Fox News does carry the ad.

Fred Phelps hosts the infamous God Hates Fags website. He is less well known for hosting the God Hates America website. Now ofcourse the "respected, mainstream" Jerry Falwell stated on the Christian Broadcasting Network that:

Dear Mr. Barron,

Congratulations on your decision to withhold your endorsement from President Bush for 2004. Your commitment to the rights of gays and lesbians is admirable, and it is refreshing to see a political organization with the integrity to adhere to its principles. Your resolution commands respect.
