More Gay Patriot Venom on Log Cabin

December 08, 2004

Brian, guest blogging for Christian mentions it here.

Good for Log Cabin Republicans.

I just went over to Log Cabin's website and donated after reading the Gay Patriot post on this. I suggest that others do the same - and in the comments, ask, Log Cabin Republicans to thank GayPatriotWest for inspiring you to donate to Log Cabin Republicans.

SLDN is doing their own case. Log Cabin Republicans has a press release praising SLDN for their action:

Statement by Log Cabin President Patrick Guerriero

December 6, 2004
(Washington, DC)-Log Cabin Republicans applaud Service Members Legal Defense Network for filing a lawsuit seeking to overturn the ban on gays and lesbians being able to serve openly in our military. Log Cabin, which is represented by the global law firm of White & Case, filed suit to overturn this policy in October in federal court in Los Angeles. We welcome any challenge to this blatantly discriminatory policy that serves only to weaken our national security and undermine our military preparedness.

Public opinion, the experience of our allies, and the national security interests of our nation all lead to the inescapable conclusion that gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly and honestly in our military.

Log Cabin Republicans is the nation's largest organization of Republicans who support fairness, freedom, and equality for gay and lesbian Americans. Log Cabin has state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time Washington office, and a federal political action committee.

It seems that the GayPatriots have a vendetta against Log Cabin.

I have no idea why efforts shouldn't be made to repeal this policy legislatively. It won't happen the first session you try - but you don't get any bill passed if you don't introduce it. I saw Representative Betty McCollum at a Minnesota Women's Political Caucus event. I asked her to introduce or co-sponsor a bill to overturn DADT. She said that such a bill is introduced, but it won't go anywhere because both houses are held by Republicans.

I will be following up on this with my Representative: Rep. Martin Sabo. The only way to start a bill on the road to passage is to introduce it.
