Entertainers are born to make people happy. Everlounge is ideal at it. And they’re returning to Tierney’s Tavern on Friday, Oct. 10.
Everlounge is a kitschy seven-piece lounge band made up of Don Dazzo on lead vocals; Amy Gruber-Phillips on vocals and percussion; Bill Siegel on keyboards and trumpet; Bob Ardrey on guitar; John Callahan on guitar; Joe Rowley on bass; and Chuck Mott on drums. They perform throughout New Jersey amusing audiences dressed in wild polyester outfits, belting out original tunes from their CDs “Vodka Content,” “Everlounge Recommends Wine Women Rock” and “Nice Set of Maracas.”
Of course, for a band to make money in New Jersey, it’s imperative to do cover songs. Everlounge pulls it off with finesse, choosing stuff suited to their style, such as “Something Stupid” by Frank Sinatra, “She’s a Lady” by Tom Jones and their very own lounge version of Iggy Pop’s “Nightclubbing.”
Then there’s the stuff that is not quite suited to their style, but Everlounge makes it work. Imagine lead vocalist, Dazzo, with his slicked-back hair, polyester tuxedo with ruffled shirt, and a goofy grin on his face, looking like the cat who ate the canary, crooning “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead. It’s a show not to be missed.
