Texas Thuggery

December 11, 2004

The way Texas sees it, six months of job probation and a written reprimand is all Trooper Michael Carlson needs for harassing a gay couple.

Corvino, who now teaches at Wayne State University in Detroit, said in a complaint filed with DPS shortly after the Sept. 16 incident the trooper approached him and his male companion while they sat a park bench.

The men responded that they were "just hanging out" when Carlson asked what they were doing, the complaint said. Corvino said he tried to tell Carlson that they were not breaking the law, but he said the trooper told them again that "homosexual conduct is against the law."

"We won't have you doing this on Capitol grounds," Carlson told the men, according to the complaint.

Is Disney's Shark Tale a 'Coming Out' Story?

November 17, 2004

In his latest movie review of Disney's Shark Tale, Christian conservative Ed Vitagliano warns parents of the treacherous homosexual depths of cartoondom. The way Vitagliano sees it, any cartoon shark that doesn't eat meat is clearly a HOMOSEXUAL.

It is when Shark Tale turns its attention to Lenny that it veers toward an undercurrent of approval for homosexuality. While it is difficult to prove intent when a film does not explicitly make a character "gay," the story and dialogue demonstrate an implicit approval of homosexuality.

The movie is, as Peter Debruge of Premiere magazine said in a review, "a weak allegory about a macho dad learning to accept his gay son."

Parent Fights 'Cross-dressing Day'

November 17, 2004

Texas mom Delana Davies isn't about to let the homosexual agenda force her son into the hell-bound lifestyle of cross-dressing. Her complaint against the morality of a decades old homecoming tradition has now banned the practice.

"It's like experimenting with drugs," Davies said. "You just keep playing with it and it becomes customary. ... If it's OK to dress like a girl today, then why is it not OK in the future?"

Plano-based Liberty Legal Institute issued a news release yesterday reporting that it "came to the aid of a concerned parent" over an "official cross-dressing day" in the school district.

"It is outrageous that a school in a small town in east Texas would encourage their 4-year-olds to be cross-dressers," Liberty Legal Institute attorney Hiram Sasser said in the release

Heterosexual Agenda Targets Children

November 11, 2004

In the children's story Cinderella, two adults act on their heterosexual attraction to one another, kiss and get married. It's one of many stories with such plots told to pre-schoolers and kindergartners across America.

To date, no one claims the stories seduce children into heterosexual behavior. The idea Cinderella would sexualize children seems so foolish. But when a fairy godfather in the book "Am I Blue?" helps a boy figure out whether he ever wants to go that far with a girl, foolishness becomes a relative state of mind.

Protheroe's class read "Am I Blue?," a short, fictional story by Bruce Coville that explores a boy's confusion with his sexual identity and the gay fairy godfather who helps him realize he is not alone. The story, "In the Time I Get," by Chris Crutcher, is about a teenager who befriends a man dying of AIDS and must face his bigotry. The material has been used off and on for the past five years but never was formally challenged in the district.

Seven parents filed complaints last month, saying Protheroe and the district failed to notify them about the stories, which they consider unsuitable for middle-school students. They say the stories promote gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender themes and use bigoted or racist slang.

Red-State Vitriol

November 10, 2004

Republicans must hate the fact that Zell Miller is retiring.

"The more Maureen Loud [sic] gets on 'Meet the Press' and writes those columns, the redder these states get. I mean, they don't want some high brow hussy from New York City explaining to them that they're idiots and telling them that they're stupid." Miller also suggested "that red-headed woman at the New York Times" should not mock anyone's religion: "You can see horns just sprouting up through that Technicolor hair."

Dowd responds: "I'm not a highbrow hussy from New York. I'm a highbrow hussy from Washington. Senator, pistols or swords?"

Texas Conservatism and the Culture War Mandate

November 10, 2004

A preview of Texas conservatism coming to a school board near you.

Last year, Texas passed a law prohibiting the recognition of gay civil unions, in addition to a ban against gay marriage that was already in place.

In light of this legislation, Republican board member Terri Leo proposed the changes for the textbooks, arguing that broad terms such as "individuals who marry" and "married partners" contradict Texas marriage laws and promote gay marriage.

"Marriage has been defined in Texas, so it should also be defined in our health textbooks that we use as marriage between a man and a woman," Leo said.

The main victory sought and won by Leo was the inclusion of a clear definition of marriage as between a man and a woman. Both Holt, Rinehart, and Winston and Glencoe/McGraw Hill, two of the largest publishers, agreed to add this definition to the text.

The Culture War Mandate

November 09, 2004

Still more evangelicals are demanding action on the Republican Moral Majority's mandate for a culture war. If President Bush won't listen, there's always Alan Keyes in 2008!

"Now that values voters have delivered for George Bush, he must deliver for voters," said the Rev. D. James Kennedy, a broadcast evangelist based in Florida. "The defense of innocent unborn human life, the protection of marriage, and the nomination and confirmation of judges who will interpret the Constitution, not make law from the bench, must be first priorities come January."

But Chris Mottola, a Philadelphia-based Republican political consultant who worked on the Bush campaign, said those hot-button issues are only part of what drove the values voter.

"I think people saw 'moral values' on that poll as standing for what they admired about Bush, which is his strength of character, more than a specific set of issues such as gay marriage or abortion," Mottola said. "Culturally conservative people look at the president and see their kind of guy, an honest, steadfast leader with core convictions who isn't afraid to talk about his faith."

The Culture War Mandate

November 08, 2004

Jerry Falwell is ready for the President and Republican party to act on the moral majority's "moral issues" mandate. Falwell was so kind to recognize we're at war as he made his way down the short list.

fawell110804.jpgFALWELL: I have a little problem with Mr. Specter. Robert Bork was maybe the most qualified member of the Supreme Court ever to go up there, and Specter is one of the guys who shot him down. I have a hard time forgetting that. I want to see the federal marriage amendment passed as early next year as possible. I am not talking about stopping the war to do that, but I am saying that we waited a long time and this -- we didn't start this battle, but these are the people who helped put 55 senators in place and a majority in the House.

Falwell: Gay Marriage = Slavery

November 04, 2004

It was the Falwell's of the world whose Biblical justification of slavery over a century ago created the nation's largest Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptists.

COOPER: But Democrats argue look, John Kerry doesn't support gay marriage. I mean he doesn't want a constitutional amendment about it, but he didn't support gay marriage. Why is it that the Republicans have been able to benefit from that whereas the Democrats did not? Is it simply the question of the constitutional -- the federal amendment?

FALWELL: Well, nobody believes John Kerry on that because his voting record, pro choice, his voting record on the family issues, does -- belies his statement. And the fact that he would not support a federal marriage amendment, it equates in our minds as someone 150 years ago saying I'm personally opposed to slavery, but if my neighbor wants to own one or two that's OK. We don't buy that.

Religious Right Base Seeks Mandate

November 04, 2004

No less than a day after granting President Bush a victory, the religious right base of the Republican party is busy explaining why the mandate of "moral values" trumps jobs, the economy and the war in Iraq.

If Bush's base paid attention to White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan yesterday, they'd see they've been completely duped. President Bush has no intention of making "moral issues" the priority Ralph Reed sold them in exchange for votes. The Religious Right was used for their passionate religious belief that gays are America's #1 threat to their top priority of "moral values."

"Most Americans don't want to sit down and explain to their children why they live in a country where men can marry men, why there's polygamy -- because that would naturally follow, we would argue," Bauer said yesterday.

If two men could marry, so could three, four, or more, Bauer said. Moreover, he said, "textbooks could not talk about 'mothers' and 'fathers.' They could only talk about 'parents.' "

Not long ago, this might have been considered a somewhat fringe viewpoint, a trifle alarmist -- "polygamy" just isn't something you hear people talking about in Washington political circles -- but gay marriage now seems essential to any conversation about the 2004 election. The exit polls pointed to a huge boost for Republicans from voters who said their biggest concern was "moral values."

Anti-Gay Tax Fraud For Jesus

October 29, 2004

Christian conservative Gary Glenn is tired of democratic laws standing in his way. To Gary Glenn, committing tax fraud is very Christian, especially when it helps strip rights from American citizens and pays Glenn's contract fees.

Check the website for the American Family Association-Michigan (AFA) while you can. Gary Glenn is currently soliciting a "tax-deductible" contribution to directly fund a political television ad (watch video) urging voters to vote "yes" on Proposal 2, Michigan's Marriage Protection Amendment. All in a day's work for Gary Glenn.

After you've watched the commercial, your help is urgently needed. With only two weeks remaining before Nov. 2nd, please help us raise the money needed immediately to air this commercial on cable stations in Detroit, Flint, and other communities with a large African-American community, a key swing population on Proposal 2.

Your contribution to AFA-Michigan is tax-deductible.

To make an immediate online contribution, click here. (Be sure to indicate "TV commercial" in the message space of the contribution form.)

"Support for political contributions is not tax-deductible and what they are doing is a violation of both state and federal law," said Dana Houle, spokesperson for the CFM. "We just learned of this, but it appears from their website that the AFA has been deceiving citizens of Michigan throughout their entire campaign."

For Bush, Or Else!

October 28, 2004

stevensoper.jpgIt's sad when cute people engage in criminal behavior. Research shows they are more likely to succeed on their good looks than they are criminal activity. Steven is a young Marine who was mad that his girlfriend was voting for John Kerry, so he roughed her up a bit.

He dragged Silveira into the house kicking and screaming, a police report said. Neighbor Lisa Belout was watching television, heard the commotion and called 911.

Inside, Soper threw Silveira to the floor, spit in her face and bit her cheek, she said, pointing to the brown bruise on the left side of her face.

"He went and got a knife and put the knife in my hand and said, `Kill me because if you vote for Kerry I'm going to die anyway,'" she said while standing outside her home, which has a Kerry/Edwards campaign sign in the yard.

Hawaii Republican Hates Homos

October 26, 2004

Because of his comments about how the American contractors in Falluja deserved to be hanged, on my own site, I refer to DailyKos as "He-who-must-not-be-linked"...but Christian's site can, especially when it pertains to gay issues.

ScottMaui reports on comments by Robb Finberg, a Pastor for the Christian Fellowship Church, Republican running for the Hawaii State Senate:

Finberg was interviewed by Forrest Bradford, who has a show called Religious Phonies on local cable access channel AKAKU.

After explaining his creationist views of history's timeline and how gays don't actually exist, Finberg was asked: "If there was a law that supported the execution of people found guilty of performing homosexual acts, would you support that law?"

After stating "Unfortunately, nearly 300,000 Americans have suffered the death penalty as a result of homosexual activity," Finberg answered, "Yes, if it were the law of the land. Yes."

It is hard, even for me, to say that, well, if something were the law of the land, then it should be enforced. For example, abortion is legal, and even though I hate to see one human being die, it is the law of the land.

Perhaps this is a concerted effort, now that polls show Hawaii as a swing state, to cast President Bush as a moderate...compared to these guys, he seems like a Massachussets liberal.

Ignorance leads voters to Bush

October 26, 2004

How else could people justify voting for the President, unless they did not know any better?

That, at least, is the hypothesis behind a story in today's New York Times 'voter guide', which says:

Only about half the respondents could typically identify which candidate took which position. As a result, the respondents actually agreed with President Bush more than they realized on three issues (eliminating the estate tax, making recent tax cuts permanent and allowing workers to reinvest some of their Social Security contributions in the stock market).

The respondents agreed with Senator John Kerry more than they realized on the five other issues (abortion rights, eliminating tax breaks for overseas profits of American companies, allowing drugs to be imported from Canada, making it easier for labor unions to organize and easing restrictions on federal financing of stem-cell research).

A follow-up Annenberg survey right after the debates showed that on average, about 8 percent more respondents could correctly identify a candidate's position.

Finally, an explanation for flyover people being Republican that the liberal elitists on the Coasts can understand--they don't know any better!

President Bush Backs Partnership Rights

October 25, 2004

In his Good Morning America interview, President Bush goes farther than he ever has in offering support for partnership rights:

"I view the definition of marriage difference (sic) from legal arrangements that enable people to have rights. And I strongly believe that marriage ought to be defined as between, a union between a man and a woman," Bush said. "Now, having said that, states ought to be able to have the right to pass … laws that enable people to you know, be able to have rights, like others."

While not quite going as far as John "You Have to Introduce It" Kerry in advocating federal partnership rights, it should be noted that even though Kerry told The Advocate he wanted to introduce federal partnership rights legislation, in his twenty years in the U.S. Senate, he has yt to do so.

'Vote for Daschle & Vote for SODOMY'

October 22, 2004

What Would Jesus Do? Someone who loves Jesus wants South Dakotans to know their vote for Daschle is a vote for gay sex.

The white-on-blue sticker reads, "Vote for Daschle & Vote for SODOMY." A disclaimer alerts readers that fees were "Paid for by someone who loves Jesus and friends of swlJ. This ad is not authorized by any candidate of (sic) candidate committee."

The mass mailing went out earlier this month to churches statewide. A select few homeowners with yard signs supporting Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle also received copies in their mailboxes.

The anonymous disclaimer offers no real identity, and the return address is that of Daschle's re-election headquarters.

WHITE HOUSE: Pat Robertson's Trail of Lies

October 21, 2004

Is Pat a Liar?
The White House wants you to know that Pat Robertson didn't just lie this week. He's been in league with Satan for months. In Robertson's defense, how was he supposed to know the White House wouldn't care what he says until two weeks before the elections?

CHUNG: Because I'm wondering if you believe the United States should invade Iraq without U.N. backing.

ROBERTSON: Connie, I have, over the last year or so, been quite concerned about entering into this war. We should have gone in after him in the Gulf War I.
This thing is fraught with danger. And I think we need to understand that. I told the president that just recently, that we have got to prepare the American people for civilian casualties, for possibly our casualties, for gassing, for various chemical weapons against them.
[CNN CONNIE CHUNG TONIGHT - Transcript - 02-27-03]

BROWN: I want to ask you how you feel about the war in Iraq. And if God is calling this war a disaster, does that mean that he is actually opposed to it?

ROBERTSON: Well, I don‘t think God‘s opposed to the war, necessarily, but it was a danger sign. I felt very uneasy about it from the very get-go. Whenever I heard about it, I knew it was going to be trouble. I warned the president. I only met with him once. I said, You better prepare the American people for some serious casualties. And he said, Oh, no, our troops are, you know, so well protected, we don‘t have to worry about that. But it has been messy. And I think we‘re going to come out of it, though. I think we‘ll have a free Iraq. But it certainly has been a mess so far.

Gays Are Worse Than Barnyard Animals

October 21, 2004

Secretary of State for Ohio, Kenneth Blackwell, fairly represents today's Republican Party. Ronald Reagan must be very proud of where Republicans want to take our country with the permission of voters.

Ohio's Secretary of State is coming out strong in support of Issue One, the measure that would ban same-sex marriage. Kenneth Blackwell spoke to an energized crowd at the Cathedral of Praise Tuesday night.

Blackwell said it's time for people of God to take a stand. He even drew a comparison between same-sex couples and farm animals. "I don't know how many of you have a farming background but I can tell you right now that notion even defies barnyard logic ... the barnyard knows better," said Blackwell referring to the idea of same-sex marriage.

White House: Televangelist Pat Robertson Is A Liar

October 20, 2004

700 Club's Televangelist Pat Robertson said the Lord told him their would be casualties in Iraq. When he told the President, Robertson said Bush defied the Lord and told him there wouldn't be any casualties. The White House and the Bush/Cheney '04 campaign are both denying claims made by Robertson. Who is telling the truth?

A White House spokesman denied Wednesday that President Bush told Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson that he did not expect casualties from the invasion of Iraq.

"The president never made such a comment," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

Senior Bush campaign adviser Karen Hughes, a longtime confidant of the president, said she was "certain" Bush would not have said anything like that to Robertson.

"Perhaps he misunderstood, but I've never heard the president say any such thing," Hughes said on CNN's "Inside Politics."

Pat Robertson: President Bush Ignored God

October 20, 2004

Pat Robertson conveyed a message from the Lord to President Bush before the war, and President Bush ignored it.

ZAHN: He's been posed repeatedly in debates, what mistakes have you made? He's been asked that on the campaign trail and he hasn't come up with any.

ROBERTSON: I met with him down in Nashville before the Gulf War started. And he was the most self-assured man I ever met in my life.

You remember, Mark Twain said, he looks like a contended Christian with four aces. He was just sitting there, like, I'm on top of the world, and I warned him about this war. I had deep misgivings about this war, deep misgivings. And I was trying to say, Mr. President, you better prepare the American people for casualties.

Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties. Well, I said, it's the way it's going to be. And so, it was messy. The lord told me it was going to be, A, a disaster and, B, messy. And before that, I had deep, in my spirit, I had deep misgivings about going into Iraq.

Alan Keyes: Mayday For Marriage

October 15, 2004

Republican U.S. Senatorial candidate from Illinois via Maryland, Alan Keyes, will be in Washington, D.C. today to speak at an anti-gay marriage rally of Christian conservatives titled Mayday For Marriage. Keyes, whose daughter is a lesbian, is an outspoken opponent of equal rights for gays. Recently, Keyes called Dick and Lynne Cheney's daughter a "sexual hedonist."

Joining Keyes are a host of conservatives who view Dick and Lynne Cheney's position on equal marriage rights with public disdain. Many conservatives have scurrilously used their daughter Mary Cheney's "lesbianism" for their political agenda over the past four years. Curiously, the Cheney's have never defended their daughter from conservative attacks.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins will speak at today's anti-gay marriage rally. Perkins recently invoked the "well-publicized homosexual status of one of Cheney's daughters" when expressing his displeasure with Cheney's position on gay marriage. [Washington Update - Tony Perkins - 10-06-04]

Gary Bauer of American Values will also address the rally. Bauer recently said Dick Cheney's publicly pronounced love for his daughter "demoralizes some sections of the base that they need in an election where we could all be counting chads again." [New York Times - 08-30-04]

What's a few sadistically "cheap and tawdry" slaps at Mary Cheney when it's among political friends, huh? Somehow, the prospects for the Cheney's of sacrificing their lesbian daughter to rabid conservatives consuming their party is much more appealing than seeing her embraced by people who truly love her for who she is. How sad.

There are plenty of people worthy of Dick and Lynne Cheney's public anger and indignation. John Kerry and John Edwards are nowhere near that list.

Today's Republican party has truly lost its moral compass. Unfortunately, the President's policies are now demonstrating how they hurt and divide the American family and cause loved ones, such as Dick and Lynne Cheney, to spew hateful anger at the wrong people.

'Gay Marriage' Heats Up Illinois Supreme Court Race

October 13, 2004

  • Gay spokesperson works for anti-gay Republican Supreme Court candidate
  • Candidate's wife to speak at anti-gay marriage rally Oct. 21

The elections in Illinois are heating up on the issue of gay marriage. No, it's not the losing anti-gay campaign waged by hypocritical moralist Alan Keyes, whose own daughter, Maya, is a lesbian. There isn't even a gay marriage measure on the November ballot. The focus of angry gay marriage opponents is on the race for the Illinois Supreme Court's 5th Judicial District seat.

Angered that the state legislature failed to place a gay marriage amendment on November's ballot, Christian conservatives are now setting their sites on the election of a Republican Supreme Court Justice in the state's 5th district.

Christian conservatives fear that Illinois Justices will continue appointing "activists judges," and that the high court itself could hear challenges to the state's law defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

The race has attracted a lot of attention and a lot of money. A Colorado based film maker, Wayne Ewing Films, is making a documentary on the election, and state parties and special interest groups have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the race.

Because of laws prohibiting Supreme Court candidates from expressing their views on issues that might come before the court, Republican Supreme Court Justice candidate Judge Lloyd Karmeier is very careful in how he expresses his position on gay marriage.

"What Karmeier has said is Supreme Courts in other states have gone too far in their actions and that he believes the court is to interpret the law, not make laws," Karmeier Campaign Spokesperson Steve Tomaszewksi told Outlet Radio.

When asked how Tomaszewski feels as a gay man working for a Supreme Court candidate who advocates positions denying him and his partner equal rights, Tomaszewski asserted, "I have no problem speaking for Shimkus and Karmeier on these issues and supporting their positions both personally and professionally." Tomaszewski added that Outlet Radio was the first media outlet ever to ask him about being gay.

Tomaszewski has lived with his partner, Jerry Dial, a hairstylist in Collinsville, IL, at various addresses for years. Thomaszewski is also the spokesperson for Representative John Shimkus (R-IL), who recently voted for the Federal Marriage Amendment in the United States Congress.

As a spokesperson for Karmeier's campaign, Tomaszewski answers to Campaign Manger David Luechtefeld, a conservative Republican state senator in Illinois who opposes equal rights for gays.

Even the candidate's wife is in on the gay bashing. On October 21st, Judge Karmeier's wife Mary will attend an anti-gay marriage rally in Effingham, IL and plans to speak about the issue of gay marriage. The rally is one of 14 occurring across the state in a one week period titled "United We Stand--Defending Marriage."

The rallies are hosted by Christian conservative groups Illinois Family Institute, Concerned Women for America Illinois, Walsh Forum, Catholic Citizens Illinois and others.

"We are just a bunch of Christians in Illinois who aren't giving up on the grassroots battle to end gay marriage," Effingham Protect Marriage Rally coordinator Pammette Balda told Outlet Radio. "We don't want the bestiality, pedophilia and gay marriages that liberal activist judges are forcing on America. We're organizing and telling Illinois that the Christian majority won't stand for this."

Renew Illinois, one of the sponsors of United We Stand--Defending Marriage, has endorsed Judge Lloyd Karmeier for the Illinois Supreme Court.

Another even co-sponsor, Catholic Citizens of Illinois, has placed radio spots reminding voters not to vote for politicians that support equal marriage rights.

"Across the country, pro abortion gay rights politicians are masquerading as Catholics and asking for your vote, while the clear teaching of the Catholic Church is that abortion and homosexual acts are gravely sinful.Politicians who promote these errors, and the voters who put them in office, participate directly in this evil. This November, don't leave your Catholic Faith behind when you go into the voting booth. Your vote is a matter of life... or DEATH"
[Catholics Vote Catholic - listen to the MP3]

Balda said she heard Karmeier speak at a Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce luncheon on the subject and is confident Karmeier will stand up against the gay agenda and activist judges.

"Liberals are trying to get this gay agenda into our schools so kids who haven’t hit puberty will question themselves," Balda added. "Krameier won’t let that happen."

Citizens in the 5th district of Illinois will vote for either Republican Lloyd Karmeier or his opponent, Democratic candidate Judge Gordon Maag, on November 2, 2004. The documentary is scheduled for release January 2005 and will be distributed in theaters, television, schools and universities.

Rampant Lesbianism

October 13, 2004

Tom Coburn wants your help protecting your daughters from lesbianisms.

"You know, Josh Burkeen is our rep down here in the southeast area. . . . He was telling me lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?"

U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn says a comment he made about lesbianism during an Aug. 31 campaign speech is being taken out of context.

"That was in light of the discussion of how you can protect our children from the onslaught of what we're seeing in our culture," Coburn said Tuesday. "It was taken out of context to make something an issue in this campaign that is not. I was quoting what was told to me at the meeting."

Republican Party officials sought the charges claiming Michael Moore gave pairs of clean underwear and packs of Ramen Noodles to students who pledged to vote.

Republicans must be buying a lot of votes with their free t-shirts, bags of Doritos, Goldfish and other booty they gave away outside of MTV headquarters on Time Square. Surely RNC Chair Ed Gillespie wasn't about to buy votes with a stack of free t-shirts on Reggie the Registration Rig? That's one wacky Republican conspiracy theory.

Prosecutors in Isabella, Ingham and Antrim counties said they determined no action was warranted. A spokeswoman for Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Thursday that election law violations should be handled by the attorney general's office.

The harshest reaction came from the two Republican prosecutors, Antrim County's Charles Koop and Isabella County's Larry Burdick. Worthy and Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III are Democrats.

"Alleging that a person is attempting to buy votes is a serious allegation, and one that is taken seriously by this office. However, your request to prosecute Mr. Moore trivializes the intent of this section of the election code," Koop said Thursday in a letter to Greg McNeilly, executive director of the state Republican Party.

Republican Values: South Carolina's Jim Demint

October 07, 2004

Jim DeMint is sorry so much attention is being focused on his ignorant view of the world. DeMint's half-hearted apology doesn't explain why he and his staff thinks the way they do about gays and pregnant women when they are seeking to represent South Carolina in the United States Congress.

jimdemint.jpg"As my wife often reminds me, sometimes my heart disengages from my head, and I say something I shouldn’t — and that’s what happened yesterday," DeMint said. "I clearly said something as a dad that I just shouldn’t have said. And I apologize."

When asked to explain DeMint’s statement, campaign manager Terry Sullivan said the Greenville congressman would not elaborate. Repeated attempts to reach DeMint directly in Washington, D.C., were unsuccessful.

"This is, frankly, something we’re trying to put an end to," Sullivan said.

Republican Values: South Carolina's Jim DeMint

October 06, 2004

U.S. Senate Candidate from South Carolina, Jim DeMint, is at it again. His list of people he'd refuse a job now includes single pregnant women. A week ago, DeMint said gay people need not apply for teaching positions. The attitude is shared by his foul-mouthed staff, who recently used "fag" and "dyke" in emails to other staffers.

Jim DeMint's Republican vision of America, he asserts, is a moral one. Curiously, no one has thought to ask DeMint where hell-bound Jews fit in his moral map of exclusive employment rights.

On Tuesday, DeMint added another group to his list of people who shouldn't teach in public schools: single pregnant women with live-in boyfriends. In an interview with the Aiken Standard for Wednesday editions, DeMint talked about a higher moral standard for those who teach children.

"I would have given the same answer when asked if a single woman, who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend, should be hired to teach my third grade children," DeMint said. "I just think the moral decisions are different with a teacher."

The Fall of James Dobson

October 05, 2004

Christian conservative talk show host and founder of Focus on the Family James Dobson is obsessed with homosexuality. No other issue, including being saved by Jesus, has led to such passion from Dobson than stoking the winds of hate in America. His latest email missives wail against the sin of gay marriage, rally support for a boycott of Procter & Gamble, and now includes a nation-wide tour urging people to vote for measures to strip gays of equal rights.

After ranting and raving about the threat of equal rights for gays last night on a stop in Sioux City, Iowa, Dobson fell off a six foot stage and had to get stitches.

Paul Hetrick, vice president of media relations for Focus on Family, said Dobson was treated at the event site and later examined at Mercy Medical Center. "It could have been a lot worse and we are regarding it as a real blessing," Hetrick said.

I'm not sure which part was God's "blessing," Dobson falling off the stage after condemning other people, or God protecting Dobson from being paralyzed by his obsession with hate.

Republican Values: No Gay Teachers!

October 04, 2004

Remember Ginny Allen's dirty mouth? She's the staffer for a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate from South Carolina that sent a disparaging email calling people "fag" and "dyke" only to get slapped on the wrist.

Now we know that attitude is shared by the candidate himself, Republican Jim DeMint. Take a look at his appalling position of firing gay teachers and denying them employment if they are gay. Welcome to the Republican vision of America.

DeMint, a Greenville congressman, said the government should not endorse homosexuality and "folks teaching in school need to represent our values."

Tenenbaum, the state education superintendent, called DeMint’s position "un-American."

DeMint said after the debate that he would not require teachers to admit to being gay, but if they were "openly gay, I do not think that they should be teaching at public schools."

Conservative Party Ad Takes The Cake

October 04, 2004

Dr. Marilyn O'Grady is a Conservative Party candidate for U.S. Senate from NY, and she's mad as hell that the Democrat and Republican candidates support fairness and equality. In a press release issued by her campaign today, Dr. O'Grady puts her opponents together on a gay wedding cake in an ad that accusses them of sharing positions on gay marriage and abortion.

"Mills and Schumer aren't a same-sex couple, but they're certainly a same-politics couple,"Dr. O'Grady said, adding: "I'm the only candidate in this race who supports President Bush on an amendment to protect traditional marriage and on defending the right to life. Mills and Schumer are hopelessly opposed to the President."
[SCHUMER AND MILLS ARE THE PERFECT LIBERAL COUPLE - Press Release - 10-04-04]

O'Grady has had it with Bruce Springstein and his liberal friends encouraging people to vote, too. Here's her ad advocating consumer boycotts of the Boss.

UPDATE 11:38am: The O'Grady Campaign just sent me the ad. You can view it here. If you are a conservative Republican in NY, consider voting for O'Grady!

Show down at Lansdowne Borough Council

October 02, 2004

Michael Marcavage, the director of Repent America, desperately wants America to "adhere entirely to the teachings of the Bible." Nevermind Biblical standards of selling daughters as pre-pubescent sex slaves and the Godly virtues of polygamy. Marcavage believes advocating the death of homosexuals is one moral God has yet to abandon to the just rule of man.

On July 21, Marcavage took time as a citizen of Lansdowne, PA to express his displeasure with homosexuality at the Lansdowne Borough Council. Shortly after engaging openly gay Councilman Kevin Lee, Marcavage launched into his true intended sermon and began reading Biblical passages about homosexuality from a podium set up for public comment.

"The council president, who I believe is Mr. (Norman) Council, said that's hate speech. What better way to squelch the messenger or silence the message than to arrest the messenger?" Shields said.

"Council perceived what he was reading as hate speech. It would be homophobic today. They couldn't let him go on. You can't go up to the podium and start reading from the Bible," Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Kusturiss countered.
[Meeting disruption case goes to trial - News of Delware County - 09-29-04]

Apparently, Marcavage, like many radical Christian conservatives across the country, is very concerned about local governments allowing gays and lesbians to live in their communities. Here is what the minutes from the council meeting said about Marcavage's appearance:

Michael Marcavage 62 E. Stewart Avenue
Mr. Marcavage asked if it was the desire of Borough Council to encourage more gay and lesbian individuals to live in Lansdowne. President Council stated that it was his desire to have anybody who wants to come to Lansdowne to live should be able to come to Lansdowne to live. Mr. Marcavage then started to read from scripture regarding homosexuality. President Council told Mr. Marcavage that he would not allow him to come before Borough Council to use the meeting as a vehicle for his hate speech. Mr. Marcavage then proceeded to read from the bible whereupon the meeting was adjourned.

Mr. Lee moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Smith. The motion carried unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM. The meeting reconvened at 8:35 PM.

Republican 'Girlie Men' under attack

September 28, 2004

fruitcup.jpgIt didn't take long for the fruit cups on the right to attack California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He shouldn't take it personally. Afterall, these fruit cups are desperate to divert Americans from holding President Bush accountable for fiscal irresponsibility and deficit spending.

If that winning message was enough to bring California Republicans and Democrats together to recall Governor Gray Davis, it's enough to bring them together to recall George W. Bush.

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger must not be too troubled by what he's called 'girlie men' because he's just signed a bill into law that maintains 'sex' in California to include drag queens, cross-dressers and transsexuals," the Rev. Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition said in a statement. "Schwarzenegger has sided with the homosexual and drag queen lobby in muddying the biological realities of male and female."

Tolerance on Parade: Duelling Billboards

September 24, 2004

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays, or PFOX, has placed the billboard on Interstate 64 near the turnoff for I-95 in the Richmond, Va., area, the group said in a statement. The sign features a photo of a man who left homosexuality and says: "Ex-Gays Prove that Change Is Possible. Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays Seeking Tolerance for All."

"Homosexual activists seek total acceptance and tolerance for their decisions, but they openly discriminate against ex-gays' decisions to leave homosexuality," said Regina Griggs, executive director of PFOX.
[Billboard pushes tolerance for ex-homosexuals - WorldNetDaily - 09-24-04]

If you want to see intolerant, take a look at the kind of message Regina Griggs and her friends find perfectly acceptable in America.

Rep. Nick Lampson takes money from homosexual activists and then votes their agenda in Congress. He has voted against the Marriage Protection Act and opposes the Federal Marriage Amendment- and even wants the taxpayer to subsidize homosexual immigration. Now, Nick Lampson is again taking money from homosexual activists to pull the wool over our eyes one more time.

Nick Lampson and his homosexual friends probably think Southeast Texans are too stupid to figure out their scheme. They probably think they can pump in some liberal money from New York and San Francisco, pay for some slick ads, and the "hicks" back in "flyover country" will never figure it out.

NY Republican Jim Tedisco is 'a Mustard Man'

Have real issues become too difficult for Republicans to stomach?

Republican state Assemblyman Jim Tedisco recently told the crowd at a GOP cookout in Saratoga County that using Heinz ketchup would benefit Kerry's presidential campaign.
