Bush on 'State of Marriage'

January 20, 2004

President Bush plans to lend his voice to divisive forces in America this evening in his State of the Union address before Congress. Rather than rejecting hateful rhetoric, President Bush plans to lend his support for excluding gay and lesbian Americans from equal marriage rights. President Bush's choice leads one to question what kind of "compassionate conservatism" is at the heart of a policy that seeks to trample American principles of fairness and equality?

Equal Marriage Rights in America

January 14, 2004

In an effort to rally his conservative base, President Bush hopes a $1.5 billion marriage initiative will calm angry Republicans eager to amend the United States Constitution to deny equal marriage rights to gay and lesbian Americans.

President Bush is doing the right thing by promoting the values and virtues of marriage in America. President Bush has a $1.5 billion opportunity to educate every American on what stable, healthy relationships protected under law do for this country and for American families.

President Bush has a $1.5 billion opportunity to reject forces in America seeking to destroy the institution of marriage by denying gay and lesbian Americans equal marriage rights and the full protection of law.

President Bush has a $1.5 billion opportunity to fund gay and lesbian services across America that also seek to strengthen marriage in America by making sure equal marriage rights include gay and lesbian Americans.

Will President Bush stand up for American values of fairness and equality, or will he use this as yet another opportunity to lend his voice to hate and division in America?
