GAY.com's recent ad campaign has us focusing on America coming together for random hook-ups. I bet this wasn't what they had in mind.
"Once I met him I was so scared," the boy testified about his first meeting with Bruce Wernick, then 43. "He kind of persuaded me into wanting to do things."Wernick, now 47, of Valley Stream, is accused of sodomizing the boy, who was 15 then, in his family's home. Wernick is charged with doing the same to two other underage boys, as well as downloading, saving and sharing child pornography through his computer. Wernick faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
During cross-examination, Wernick's attorney, Bruce Barket of Garden City, attempted to engender sympathy for his client by painting the teenager, now 19, as a willing participant in the encounter.
Barket asked him to explain an e-mail he wrote Wernick after the two met on gay.com in 2001 that stated: "I hope we can meet also!!! I want to learn a lot of things."
"What you were referring to there was sexual matters, yes?" Barket asked.
"Yes," the teen said.
