HRC Confirms Finalizing Pick For New President and CEO

March 04, 2005

The New York Blade has picked up my post about HRC offering the job of President and CEO to Joe Solmonese of Emily's List. In the Blade, Vic Basile affirms he is "sworn to secrecy" and says Joe Solmonese knew he was "right up there." Huh.

The Human Rights Campaign's search for a new executive director seems to be coming to an end. Vic Basile, a co-chair of the 25 member search committee and the HRC Foundation, said that the committee had finalized its recommendation to the HRC board on Monday.

Basile said that HRC is still in the process of completing a background check on the candidate selected by the committee, and that there were still several hurdles before the recommendation would be officially presented to the HRC board for consideration. Basile also confirmed that the HRC board will be meeting at the end of next week in Washington, D.C.

Previous E.D. Cheryl Jacques resigned her post under pressure in December over differences in management philosophy. In a January press release, Gwen Baba, who is HRC board co-chair and the co-chair of the search committee said, "Our very ambitious goal is to have a new leader in place this spring.”

"We're sworn to secrecy," Basile said when asked for the identity of the person recommended or those who were under consideration by the search committee.
