Law Student 'Marriage' Article

February 15, 2005

Chris Geidner, a very bright third-year law student at Ohio State University's Moritz College, is doing an article on marriage and needs your help. I met Chris in the late 1990s while working with the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C. Email him: chris[at]chrisgeidner[dot]com.

I am going to be writing about implementation of and challenges to state initiatives and constitutional amendments restricting marriage to one man and one woman in recent years. This will focus specifically on the wording and purpose of said amendments, the constitutional questions they might raise, and the construction of these amendments by judges. Finally, I hope to provide a blueprint for dealing with such measures in the future.

Should you or someone you know be involved in litigation involving these marriage amendments, I am asking that you e-mail me so that I can collect legal motions, unpublished court rulings, and any other relevant background materials not easily accessible otherwise that would help me in the completion of this project.
