"I don't want to escalate it because I like Madonna," the 57-year-old singer-songwriter tells Entertainment Weekly. "She's been to my house for dinner. It was something that was said in the heat of the moment, and probably should not have been said."

eltonjohn110404.jpg"The polarisation in this country worries me greatly. The atmosphere is so preposterous and sad. We were lied to, both in Britain and America. Here, a fear has been instilled in people since 9/11. When I see the orange alert on TV, I think, 'What's the point? Buy duct tape?' I love this country so much, but it isn't the land of the free anymore. It's certainly not the land of free speech," rate the music quoted him as saying. (ANI)

The show will be shot in the style of 'The Office' and follows a badly behaved, ageing rock star, with 'Sex and The City' writer Cindy Chupack scripting the half-hour series.

Speaking to Variety, John said: "It's not about me, but about everybody we've encountered over the past 30 years."
