President Bush Backs Partnership Rights
October 25, 2004
In his Good Morning America interview, President Bush goes farther than he ever has in offering support for partnership rights:
"I view the definition of marriage difference (sic) from legal arrangements that enable people to have rights. And I strongly believe that marriage ought to be defined as between, a union between a man and a woman," Bush said. "Now, having said that, states ought to be able to have the right to pass … laws that enable people to you know, be able to have rights, like others."
While not quite going as far as John "You Have to Introduce It" Kerry in advocating federal partnership rights, it should be noted that even though Kerry told The Advocate he wanted to introduce federal partnership rights legislation, in his twenty years in the U.S. Senate, he has yt to do so.
