Civil Disobedience with flowers

February 28, 2004

mommies.jpgCivil disobedience never smelled sweeter. As gay couples by the thousands descend on San Francisco, opponents now find themselves having to shout their divisive rhetoric through smiles of happiness, tears of joy, flowers and wedding bells. The contrast is clear. This is what those who oppose equal marriage rights do not want to see happen in this country. They have a plan to stop it forever and a sitting President regrettably lending his voice to their cause.

With the reality of couples now seeking the full protections of equal rights, another reality is becoming painfully obvious to equal marriage rights opponents, and that reality is that America has a higher principle of fairness and equality. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger warned of "riots," "protests" and "dead people." All I see is love.

Another curious absence are the hordes of activists from the vast bestiality and polygamy lobby that were also supposed to begin tearing America apart. We've been waiting for them for more than 30 years after "activist judges" ruled the government had no business denying mixed race couples equal marriage rights through Loving vs. Virginia.

President Bush says we are in the midst of a culture war of "national importance." President Bush, as you know, has war on his mind.

The sky's only parting seems to be a seasonal thing and nothing more. Spring is around the corner, and the flowers have come early. Who will stop this supposed tragedy? Let them show their face and tell American families their love isn't real.
